About | Ashley M. Stewart, PhD
Dr. Ashley Marie Stewart is an educator, researcher, and expert consultant. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology in the College of Education and Human Development at Georgia State University.
Dr. Stewart’s scholarship examines the digital and academic experiences of children and teens of color and role that race plays in these experiences. She considers how risk factors—such as online racial discrimination—impact their academic and mental health outcomes, as well as protective factors—such as critical consciousness—that mitigate the effects of negative race-related experiences. Additionally, she examines roles that teachers and educational leaders can play in helping students cope and make sense of their negative race-related experiences.
Dr. Stewart’s research is grounded in both her professional experiences and work in the community. In addition to her research and scholarship, Dr. Stewart is a research consultant with expertise in areas including DEI, mental health, racial discrimination, and impacts of internet use and social media, particularly for Black youth and families. She has also worked with mental health organizations to support colleges and universities across the nation to better support the mental health of students of color. .
